+greet trouble

Post by Jeffreii »

hmm....
.chanset #channel +greet

i've done this....and now some people get greeted and others don't

they all have infos that i added by .chinfo (username) (comment)
and some people join the chan and the bot greets/ops them- other people join the chan and the bot only ops them...so it clearly recognizes they are the person matching the user profile...but for some reason it does not say their greet.

someone told me this could be due to a "timeout" issue- however, sometimes people will join the chan and part like 3 times in a minute and all 3 times it says their greet...and then an hour later after silence, another person will join and it will op them and not greet them...i cannot figure this out, i have tried very hard to understand it and i cannot find a reason the bot will greet some users and only op others, ignoring their greet....

plz help

This is quite true, there is a timeout value.

This prevents anoying messages to users, when there connection is dropped.

You should see the config files, for information regarding changing this timneout.

so how come it will greet the same user like 3 times in 10 minutes but then a user comes in an hour later and it doesn't say anything?

The fact that bot opped them doesn't mean they were recognizied by the bot immidiatly upon joining. Tell your friends to login to bot *before* joining the channel and see if they get greeted then.
Also, I seem to recall there was an issue about this but am not 100%.
Lastly, there was some trouble with a certain TCL scripts that are playing with user's hostmask (or allowing only one or even none to be stored).
Ignorant and lazy people will save 30 minutes by chosing simple config file. Smart ones will save 3000 minutes of *everyone's* time by opting for complete config file.
