acmeshells?

Post by pending »

I'm a newbie looking for a shell, I've been reading alot. Three of my friends suggested acmeshells to get started with cause of good support they said. Has anyone used them before? Any suggestions for a newbie?

Been with Acme for a bit they have had their ups and downs but all in all they have been real good .... they do keep the users informed via email of any Scheduled System Reboots and any Schedules downtime for anything .... Automated billing system keeps you updated on when your do and so forth ..... uptimes have been good for their three shell servers.

They are talking about bringing on a IRCD server too

IRCD? Isn't that like a irc server type of thing? I can start my OWN server?

Yes, IRCD stands for IRC Daemon wich yes, means IRC server but it should be kinda expensive and kinda don't see an use for one if you don't want to start your own irc network or something..

Well I guess you have a point but it might be neat to start a small. Anyways i'm going to signup for acmeshells and see how things go. does anyone want me to post an update on my expierences with them, Although being a newbie I can't really compare it to anything.

Does anyone have any comments before I order an account?

IMHO having an IRCD runing on your box means some people will use the bandwidth of your server to irc and I know IRC servers do eat a lot of bandwidth (depending on how many users it will have). Anyway, is your choise to make an account or not. From here you will just make an opinion on what services you should apply to in order not to get fooled or something. If you are happy with them and another guy isn't then this dosen't mean they are great or suck..

well so far so good. I had my account setup pretty quickly. They pointed me to a psybnc tutorial which I read twice then they helped me when I had password problems connect to my psybnc (ident issues I guess)..

I've never had a shell before but in my opionon I give them an A+ so far.

Now my only problem is trying to choose a vhost LMAO sooo funny..
