Connecting, or not?

Post by KboT »

Hello,

This is my first time using an Eggdrop, it's turning out to be a little harder then expected, but I've managed slowly overcome problems. However, this problem has me stuck.

Basically, when I type ./eggdrop -m VULVAx.conf this is what I get:
Image

Looks good, right? Well, I also left the little mIRC thing at the bottom there. Notice how it didn't seem to connect to my server? It says it's in a channel, but no channel on my network (EFnet).

Any suggestions? How do I Telnet to the bot and find out where exactly it went?

Thanks,
- K

From eggdrop.conf:
# This is the bot's server list. The bot will start at the first server listed,
# and cycle through them whenever it gets disconnected. You need to change these
# servers to YOUR network's servers.
#
# The format is:
# server[:port[:password]]
#
# Both the port and password fields are optional; however, if you want to set a
# password you must also set a port. If a port isn't specified it will default to
# your default-port setting.
set servers {
you.need.to.change.this:6667
another.example.com:7000:password
}

irc.efnet.net
That's what I have mine set to. Seems right.

Then I suggest you do a /whois on your bots nick and see if it has indeed connected. If it has then you better recheck your channel configuration in the conf.

A Windrop?

When I /whois or /msg him, it says cannot find nick/channel (Like in the image I posted). So I assume he's not connected to my server but connected somewhere (Since it says CHANNEL: 1).

I did that about 3 times already. But right, I'll do it again.

Also, can you tell me how I can Telnet to my bot and see where it goes? Maybe that can help me narrow down the problem in the .conf file.

To telnet to the bot, you simply enter its hostname and port (as specified by the 'listen' command in the config file) in your telnet client. You will be asked for your nickname and password on connecting. Once connected, you'll be at the console and on the party line just as you would if you'd opened a DCC session. Telnet is particularly useful if you need to connect to the bot but aren't able to DCC to it (e.g. when the bot isn't on IRC).

If the text output appears incorrectly during the telnet session (e.g. each new line is indented by the length of the previous line), you may need to enable some type of "new line mode" in your telnet client's options. In PuTTY, for example, you would enable Implicit CR in every LF under Terminal.

I can't find the hostname...

I just started a new .conf file and I'm getting the same problem. It starts up, says it's in a channel, yet it's not there.

I must be, since I don't see where in that post it tells me how to get my bots hostname.

Great support.

it is great indeed, for people who actually bother to
READ WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ON THE SUBJECT
but since you are obviously in write-only mode, I personally won't bother anymore

Obviously I don't understand or can't find what Alchera said.

Posting in giant bold letters doesn't make you any tougher on the internet.

But anyways, I'll figure it out myself then. Keep being 'tuff! The internet is serious business!
