Slow .get transfers

Post by clueless »

I have an eggdrop sitting on my work connection, 10mb link. But the .get transfers top out at 20kb?

Any reason for this slow speed?

I can download from the work ftp at the house connection at 160kb (max download speed at home) with no probs.

Obviously the Network setup at your place of employment is somewhat different to your Cable or DSL connection at home.

If the eggdrop sits on a 10mb connection, shouldnt the .get via eggdrop also be 10mb transfer? Its not only me, but whomever i send the .get file nick to, is also 20kb or less.

grantred it might not be 10mb/sec transfer...... but surely it would be faster then 20kb tops?!

downloading via HTTP or FTP is one thing, downloading via DCC is another

the former is done using fixed and well known port numbers, the latter is done using arbitrary ports - and as such is frequently subjected to firewall restrictions of all kinds (and yes, you have corporate firewall at work)
