Post by DA_ISCH »

Hi,

first of all i must say that englisch is not my native language so sorry for some mistakes.

I have a problem while installing eggdrop on a Debian Server. After changing the eggdrop.conf i wrote "./eggdrop -m" but i always get the following error:

Eggdrop v1.6.18 (C) 1997 Robey Pointer (C) 2006 Eggheads
[17:22] * ERROR: Eggdrop will not run as root!

what can i do?

thx for help

eggdrop won't run as root - for security reasons. You should add a new user (e.g eggdrop) and start eggdrop from it. I myself put eggdrop in a chroot environment and run it as the restricted user eggdrop.
