I have been having a issue with my eggdrop bot (Ping Time) out on my irc server for the last few days now.. It only happens when a certain person joins the #chan my eggdrop sits in.
This guy is a good personal friend of one of my server admins and i know hes not trying to hack/flood the bot. I have Allprotection4.6b8 installed I run the eggy on a few vhosts I had the guy format his computer and join via java and my bot still Ping Times out as soon as he joins the #chan.
I'm running eggdrop v1.6.18 on FreeBSD
Please, if anyone can help me figure this out that would be really great.
Can you provide more information about what the nickname and userhost of this person are (or just some special characters that may exploit any possible backdoors in a script). Are there any error messages or weird messages in your bot's console?
What you can do for now is try and unload all scripts and see if this behaviour continues.
No error messages or weird messages in the bot's console or in the logs. As soon as he joins the chan i get no response to the bot and then he Ping Times out.
The guys nick on IRC is ReVeReNd_MaGgOt
His hostmask is Rev@.cfl.res.rr.com
Nothing suspicious there and frankly I think the relation between this user and the timeout is just coincidental. Did you try unloading your Tcl scripts and see if the problem persists?
That's not a valid host name, but an error like that should not crash eggdrop. Someone a bit more into C than myself might be able to determine if a host name starting with a dot would cause a crash.

I thought that too but then i had him join and part a few times and everytime he joined the bot would ping time out.
