dcc problem

Post by MiKaL »

First I want to thank all for their help in solving my flooding problem.
After I get the bot to IRC and I have greeted the bot and been made owner, I can dcc it. However when I have logged on the next day and try to dcc I get "I do not accept DCC from strangers". What have I done wrong? I have a password set and the tcls commands from the channel work but no dcc.

This seems odd.

If the bot recognises you for the Tcl command, it shouldn't see you are a stranger.

However, this depends highly on how what channel commands you are talkign about.

Are these commands the type that any can use, or do you need specific access on the bot.

If any1 can use them, then simply, that why they can be used, and may explain why the bot doesn't recognise you.

Depending on how your ISP does things, you may get a New IP address each tyime you login, or possibly a new one every so many hours.

This may cause the bot not to recognise you.

You can try to use the command "/msg <botnick> ident <password>"

It will also help the cuase to make sure your using the same nickname as when you registered.

1) The commands in question are for anyone to use which explains why I can:)

2) The IRC server randomly generates a new hostmask, if I am using the term correctly, everytime anyone logs on to protect them from I guess anyone knowing their true IP. I think this is the problem but I have no idea how to get around this. I tried the /msg <Bot-nick> ident <password> but the bot does not respond. When I could dcc the bot I thought a way around this issue of random hostmasks was to do a permident using wild cards ie *!*@*!*.my.ip.com and I assume I did that wrong as well.

This is a good start, to get you going again.

However, regardless of the cloaking performed by the server, you still need to set a more secure mask.

What would be more ideal, is to use your nickname and you ident. You can add multiple host masks, so if you change nicks you are still recognised.
