i had my egg set up taday. it was a real pain in the ass as the webmaster offered no support at all and i am a beginer. finaly i set it up and i ran it on the shell. in new user mode. now it told me as expected to telnet or connect through the irc and make the user. but surprise, surprise! the bot is not on the server. i double and triple checked the .config file. it is absolutely OK. what coult be the problem adn what could i do to make the bot work??? send help please
1: He isn't a webmaster, he is a shell admin. If he realy is a webmaster, then you have been talking to the wrong person.
Not all IRC servers allow eggdrops.
Those that do, may block certain shell providers, due to abuse form the companies.
Some thigns to try.
Make sure you have a suficient server list.
Make sure the bot hasn't dies, just after going into the background. To do this, type "ps x" and make sure it is listed. (It will either be listed as eggdrop, the config fiel anme, or a combination of both).
Try starting the bot for the first time with "./eggdrop -mn config.file". This will make the shell emulate the partyline, and thus, provide you with information regarding the IRC server connection.
after all the flags and module loads wich i think are absolutely normal comes this:[22:54] === CheatBot: 1 channels, 0 users.
[22:54] main: entering loop
[22:54] Trying server ns.expres.ro:6667
[22:54] DNS resolved ns.expres.ro to 193.230.228.1
[22:54] net: connect! sock 5
[22:54] Connected to ns.expres.ro

and here it freezes on this spot. i am going to try an other address for this cluster of servers (all of them) and then i'm going to try it on undernet where it definately has to work. is it a good plan?
by the way he is the shell admin and webmaster. he wrote in the motd about not giving any hints/help on setup. i managed that hopefully. poaste some more plz.
