conf netbot.tcl

Post by mopar »

Hi, I'm kind of new on this whole eggdrop thing so first of all sorry for my ignorance.
I have had an enormous help from this site while getting my shell up and conf. the eggies. I downloaded your script netbots.tcl and now as i'm trying to conf it I see a whole lot of stuff that I ask myself.. wtf is that and do I need that. They are un-# so i guess i will activate a whole lot of things if i load the script? So the question is.. for me who is using a 4bot botnet and don't want a whole lot of cool features but a stable net that works great together with as little maintanance as possible, can any of you more experienced users tell me which things to set and which ones to # to get rid off..

If i need to add more info for you to give an opinion just let me know and I'll do my very best to provide.

Thanks in advance

First, if you're kind of new on this whole eggdrop thing then you probably don't want to bite off more than you could chew by using netbots.tcl.

That said, you could try the old standalone version of netbots.tcl which is available on the 'My Scripts' page.

If that script is too outdated for your liking, you could strip down the current netbots.tcl. Keep the netbots.tcl file and delete all the component scripts (e.g. aidle.tcl, botnetop.tcl, etc.). Then in netset.tcl delete the settings section for each of those component scripts.

Refer to http://www.egghelp.org/netbots/doc_components.htm#note (you'll still need to read the rest of the documentation to get any understanding of the script).

I agree with slennox that it's probably the best to get used to the eggdrop oitself at first, but if you want to use the netbots script, wich works really pretty good on my bots, thanks alot for writing it slennox, than you should take some time and carefully read the netset.tcl.
Even when I used it for the 1st time I didn't have much trouble with it, I thinks with all the comments it is more or less self explaining. And the docu for it is well written and easy to understand.

Thanks for your replies, I see where you're coming from.
When I said that I was kind of new to the whole thing that wasn't completley true however. I've been on IRC for many years and familiar with bots, just not used to run them myself or in this case conf. tcl scripts.

I think that you solved my problem though slennox cause i had missed to click on the components link on the site.. now it all of a sudden makes a whole lot more sence.

So I'll give it my best shot to configure it all, and then I can come back with annoying questions about why my bots behaves in a certain way..
How about that :)

Thanks once again for that you take your time and help us newbies.
