User File not Found

Post by Weirdo »

Well, i just got my new PC, chucked my two eggdrops onto it, same hard drive, plugged it in and....
12:50] Minako Command Script Version 2.37 by Weirdo is now Loaded
12:50] Userinfo TCL v1.07 loaded (URL BF GF IRL EMAIL DOB PHONE ICQ).
12:50] use '.help userinfo' for commands.
12:50] winident.tcl v1.2 - by FireEgl@EFNet <FireEgl@Windrop.cjb.net> - Loaded.

12:50] Creating channel file
12:50] Couldn't create channel file: MinakoChan.chan. Dropping
12:50] * USER FILE NOT FOUND! (try './eggdrop -m eggdrop.conf' to make one)
I re-ran the windrop setup on one of them, and it wiped my eggdrop.conf file, something which has never happened before. Can anyone provide assistance?

Replacing the eggdrop.conf doesnt work, same error

My other bots, backups of minako in eggdrop 1.6.10 and 1.6.11 work fine.

Its not complaining about your eggdrop.conf, its complaining that the user file (usually called <botname>.user) is missing...

are you sure you backed this up?

Unable to Read MinakoUsers.User - Access is denied. File is in use.

Which is a wee bit o lying on WinXP's part :P

Well, the files still access denied. I can move them before i run the bots, once i run them, they lock the files so no one else can touch them. Which is odd

Right click the channel file in explorer and check its permissions. Xp (somehow) gave me access denied to over 3gb worth of files one day, and they stayed that way for months, until I selected their folder, right clicked, and changed the attributes to read only for all of them, rebooted, then set it back to 'normal'. Strangly enough, that fixed the problem and it has not reappeared since.

When you do a reinstall of windows, some files may be not even accessable by you, since it uses a user account system closer to linux than previous windows products. If you just installed over a previous xp installation (or maybe even 2k), you will have to change the ownership of a lot of files back over to yourself. (anything that gives you access denied for example). This link will step you through changing the ownership back.

I hope this helps you solve your problem.

Happy thanksgiving to any americans out there! :D

-I would change the owner for all your eggdrop files, and that might stop this from reoccuring. Administer accounts can run programs from any user, but I believe anything that program creates could be created with a diffrent owner "origional owner?". (Just read your last post)

If you log in as administrator, then you can force the acessibility of the files via the security tab on the file ... that should help...
