Not joining channel

Post by H3g3m0n »

My bot is refusing to join 1 of the channels. It doesn't seem to give any reason, it just says #home(trying) and #home(not in channel) when i do a ".status", I have made sure the bot isn't banned for some reason and checked the channel log file, I am not sure if i have the right flags for the log though. It joins other channels on the server fine. Any way i can find out what is wrong? :(

Or maybe the channel maybe set to some modes like +i or +M or +R (DALnet).. or something like that.

It *must* a problem with the channel or as caesar said, +inactive.

The modes are +cmnrt, i carn't see anything the would stop the bot joining. It is moderated but this should only stop the bot talking and everyone is set +v on entry.

I used to be able to join this channel find, it only recently that i carn't :(

I just made a tempory logfile with more modes (my current one only has p because it was just for stats) with:

.tcl logfile mkjpso #home "logs/error.log"

In is i found:
[23:44] Banned from channel--can't join: #home

However i can join with the same nick on the same ip with out any problems and ops say they carn't see it in the ban list.
I have tried rming the .chan file and recreating it with -m with no effect

Is this a Dalnet channel or something, where +r channel mode means only registred users may join the channel?

caesar, it's +R on DALnet that does'nt allow non-registered nicknames in the channel. Not +r :)

*realname ban*? what you mean by this? Also, on what network is he sitting? And dose he have a dinamic or static channel?

For some time now (including some of the EFnet IRCD's), IRC servers have slowly come to adopt the +I and +e channel modes.

They, like +b (bans) take a mask.

On some networks however (including EFnet), it means a realname ban.

Do a whois, and you get a nick!user@ident, the persons realname (as setup in the client config), server, idle time (if available) and there channels (if not +s).

This breaks eggdrop, because +e in eggdrop, means exempt from bans. EG
+b *!*@*.aol.com
+e *!secret@*.aol.com

Meaning all of AOL are banned, except anyone, who sets there ident to secret.

Oh, yah, I've remembered now. Some irc servers have this feature to not allow some *realnames* but this way you can't even get on the server, you'r connection is closed or something..

The realname bans talked of, are not the ones you are thinking of.

There are two types of mode on the server, LINES and MODES.

The modes we talk of, are channel based, and are set by channel ops. And yes, soem server do allow channel based realname bans.

LINES are, eg, K-lines. Bans at the connection level.
