How to use multiple hosting?

I was wondering how to use the 'set my-hostname' config setting. My server enables me to choose between a variety of hostnames but whatever i specify in the config the bot uses a standard hostname.
How to make it use the specified one?
I tried it works with BitchX but it doesn't want to work with Eggdrop.

Thx for any help!!

Use set my-ip instead but make sure you use an ip and not a hostname.

yeah i noticed that too, but i was using ipv6 hosts so that's maybe why. it worked with my-ip(6) though.

Thx, but now it turns back:

Eggdrop v1.6.6 (C)1997 Robey Pointer (C)2001 Eggheads
[04:58] --- Loading eggdrop v1.6.6 (Sun Nov 25 2001)
[04:58] TCL error in file 'garaz1':
[04:58] Couldn't grab nearby port
while executing
"listen 5566 all"
(file "garaz1" line 187)
[04:58] * CONFIG FILE NOT LOADED (NOT FOUND, OR ERROR)

Hmm I gues it is not going to be easy
The problem is that there is "to many connections (global)" all the time and I really need to change the Host.

You can, as guppy said, use the set my-ip. Resolve the host(the ones on the box) you wanna use, to its IP, and then give it in set my-ip. Also give the hostname in the set my-hostname.

And about the Port, you can try using ports larger than 10000. You know, i had a same problem once, but its easy when its a larger port than 10000

The "couldn't grab nearby port" error is rather misleading. This can also happen when the IP address you set is incorrect.

It does not check to see if the IP is valid, and when it tries to open the port, it says it can't open it (it can't open it, because it doesn't have the access to open a port on a IP it doesn't have control over).

We did add a better error message later when the ip is wrong .. not sure which version. As for the bot not being able to grab the port, its rarely that the port is in use because Eggdrop will automatically try to grab the next 20 ports until he grabs one.

I'm using 1.6.6 version so guess the IP is not what it is all about. I'll try to use a larger port as you said.

THX
