tcl 8.4.3 vs 8.3

Eggdrop 1.6.15 runs with tcl 8.3 ok. Are there any advantages to update tcl to 8.4.3 which is available on site www.tcl.tk on May 20, 2003?

Sure, tcl 8.4 has some new commands, performance improvements, etc. Of course, unless you use a script that needs those new commands, or you have some incredibly cpu intense scripts, you probably wouldn't even notice the difference.

If you're final user, according with stdragon, you have the choice and 8.3 is enough.

Just a notice for non-english users : the characters are better managed in 8.4 (you avoid somme unicodes Ã© or Ã´

If you're developer, you'll can use some new commands, functions, possibilites like :

numerous performance enhancements
improved escape-based encoding support
new lset command to change an element in a list
command enhancements (regsub, trace, lindex, lsearch)
new eq and ne operators for expr

Note that eggdrop official recommanded TCL version is 8.3.4
