Forum

Post by b34r »

To begin with, i like this forum, I dont want it to become some crap forum, like others,
I like the fact that there is highly skilled persons answering the posts.
So.. i think that you should move the FAQ thingie to the top level.
And not only that, somebody might even have some time to
make additions to it so that the usually stüpid questions are answered.
The reason i'm typing this is i'm really getting tired of this forum and the standard questions, i would like a little bit of higher standards.
Ofcourse there will always be newbies, but if you put the FAQ on the top
hopefully they will read that first, before asking that ordinary question.

Please excuse my crappy english knowledge, i'm just trying to air my opinions.

Usualy when I don't know something or don't remind exactly what should I do there, I go first with the Search feature of the forum, then ask other people. I've noticed that not many people use the Search function, duno why.. they prefer to ask and recive an answer not to go search for it first and then ask if they are not satisfy with what they had found. Also, this forum *leet* members are volunteeers and do the answers in they spare time so don't expect for more than we can give.

People asking questions that are answered in the FAQ or in past topics will forever continue to ask their questions without consulting with the actual answers from the faq/past topics

why?

they can`t even read the eggdrop.conf for the first place, let alone follow any instructions from either the eggdrop.conf or this website.

It's called "being lazy". I am forever fielding questions on DALnet regarding setting up eggdrops and all because no one will read anything. Must be a sign of the times.

Well there will always be lazy people
But what i meant was, to move the forums FAQ to the top
or maybe creating a new eggdrop FAQ and inserting all the things from
http://www.egghelp.org/faq.htm and putting it on the top of the forum.
That way it'll be very easy to search.

i think b34r is talking about a "sticky" post

yes, that would be a good idea

and also include links to treads with common questions like "How do i change a trigger", "Why can't i DCC my bot" etc

I think moving the FAQ forum to the top of the page is a good idea.

Adding more posts to the forum would help too.

I am guessing we're not talking explicitly about the TCL FAQ (which can be simply moved to the top of the forum index).

Making the FAQ obvious is a good idea actually. Problem #1 is that the FAQ is in HTML and this forum uses PHP (click on the FAQ button above to see the difference). As luck would have it, the good people at phpBB have a Mods section where this board's Administrator may wish to go and take a peek to see if a cutomizable FAQ module can be added to this board. :)
