You can sort of limit the size.

You have two options fr avatars.

1: Upload them to the forum. THis does check for width, height and size issues.

2: Post a URL, which the forum will simply insert into the post. The forum can't check these, as it doens't host them.

I've disabled remote avatars. The limit for uploaded avatars is 60x60, 4000 bytes. There are mods to check the size of remote avatars, but I don't think it's worth the bother.

I should use this opportunity to remind people that uploaded avatars aren't backed up by me, so make sure you have your own local copy if your avatar is important

While I was in the control panel, I fiddled a bit with the ranks, adding "Halfop" and "Owner":
