Provider wanting intimate info

Post by YooHoo »

I went to go purchase a shell, and the provider sent me an odd email wanting a copy of my drivers license, front and back, as well as my banks name and number (more bizarre since i use my credit card). I sent them (against my better judgement) only to be told, oh no, we need high resolution pic, yadda yadda, to which my reply was 1 word. Why? Why in the world could this be needed.....they say to avoid fraud, I say this procedure opens up the door for identity theft. Has anyone ever encountered this @ nexushells, or am i just special? :-?

I would never send anyone a pic of my license..Tell them to find a new customer..The bank phone # on the back of the credit card is more then enough..Give them your phone number and they can call you to verify all the info...Thats how Risingnet does it..

Don't send anything. Nexushells never ask for such things, and no other companies do as far as I know.

 um, this is the same company i speak of. My order is for a Nexushell shell, although billing comes from a seemingly different source, lifehost.net.

This is a copy of the email sent to me.

#########################

Dear Sir,

Thank you for Choosing LiFeHosting Internet, In order to complete your order
we need you to mail the following information :

- Credit Company name and phone Number.
- A clear Scanned copy of the card owner ID.

to billing@lifehost.net

Regards,

LiFeHosting Internet.

now i understand perfectly fine that companies need be careful, especially since there are many scam artists around, and no one likes to get burned. But like I have used the same credit card with 19 different companies over the course of the last three years, and never had to do this. My information is verifiable thru paypal....and why they ask what my credit company is (they already had my order there from my discover card, and i believe discovercard is a listed number...... I truly just don't understand :(

I'm not an adim or anything on nexushells, but the owner is a close friend of mine. Nexushells.com and Lifehost.net are the same company, The billing is processed by a company which is specialized in these issues (Not anyone can do so, since its a delicate procedure) You can always check your billing status at the site. I'll ask the founder as soon as I see him :)

I asked him today, and he said that's normal procedure, it's requested by the billing company. So you have nothing to worry about, I guess that's just to make sure that its valid.

bummer, thats unfortunate. I've heard possitive things about thier shells, but I'm not about to invite problems for a measley $8.00 shell. Maybe next time....
