Linking problem

Post by mopar »

Hi,

I've experienced a linking problem, unfortunatly I haven't got acess to my shells from here (work) so I haven't checked exactly what tcl's I'm running, but as far as i remember i'm running netbots.tcl, botnetop.tcl and sentinel.tcl.

I have had 3 bots on one shell and 2 on another, they have worked like a charm for say about 2 years. The shell with two bots shut down so i got myself a new one, out of lazyness I moved everything from the former shell, and just changed IP's and Vhosts on the bots and since then they are running fine.

I readded them to my hub and at this point they linked and downloaded userfiles and everything looked like a sucess.
But the other day when i opened a partyline chat with one of the new bots it was unlinked, trying to link to the hub. Strange I thought so I removed passwords on both the hub and leaf, didn't help. Checked hostmask and flags and ports and everything looks just fine to me.

Could it be a firewall issue with my new shell? I really want your opinion before i contact them and complain, so any suggestions what to do and what to check is gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance

Were there any error messages, on that bot or the hub?

I don't know how far u got since u last posted here .. but just a thought and it might be a little tedious but worth a shot I suppose.
try to .-bot hub from leaf and .-bot leaf from hub and re-add them again .. I'm sure it'll work again. (incase ur not sure how to add them check the BOTNET file in the eggdrop/doc directory.

I mean as it is now the botnetop.tcl is set to 0 and shouldn't even load right?
So how can it find an error then?

at the bottom of your conf file, specifically "conf.bertone", there will be a source line reading:
source scripts/botnetop.tcl

that is triggering your other botnetop.tcl that is located in the /scripts subdirectory of your bot. #Comment# out the source line, and rehash your bot. should solve it

Yeah, i took that line off to be able to launch my bot, so it's now on line atleast.

I will look into the configuration of that botnetop.tcl on my other bots shell and take a copy of the settings from there and se if that does the trick.
Silly thing is that it has worked for years, and now just wount :/

When i get home from work that is....
It's hard being a n00b :)

Ok, still having problems....

The "naughty" bot is now loading, still not quite sure why it didn't load to begin with, especially since the other bot did and they share the same scripts.... (netbots.tcl and botnetop.tcl)

The two bots on the shell that refuses to link and download user file is named Bertone and Giulia, my hub on the other shell is Tifosi among with two other bots that runs just fine (all 4leafs run the same scripts, i have downloaded them from the scriptdirectory of the hubs shell as the leaf there works, and put on the second not working leaf shell) The three bots on the hubshell works perfect and are linked netbots, so do the two bots on the leafshell with the exemption that they wount link and download the userfile from my hub.

I've pasted a sample from giulia (fellow leaf on the same shell) partyline when i start bertone, and a log from tifosi (hub) at the same time.

[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] Failed link to tifosi.
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] Received challenge from Bertone... sending response ...
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] Linked to Bertone.
[19:43] <Giulia> *** Linked to Bertone
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] botnetop: gave ops to Bertone on #alfaromeo
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] #alfaromeo: mode change '+o Bertone' by Giulia!charger@sucky.sucky.five.dollah.org
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] botnetop: gave ops to Bertone on #cosy
[19:43] <Giulia> [19:44] botnetop: gave ops to Bertone on #forza
[19:44] <Giulia> *** (Bertone) m0par has joined the party line.
[19:44] <Giulia> [19:45] Failed link to tifosi.

meanwhile at Tifosi (hub) partyline
[19:39] <Tifosi> [13:40] @#alfaromeo (+stn) : [m/21 o/10 v/0 n/11 b/0 e/- I/-]
[19:43] <Tifosi> [13:43] #alfaromeo: mode change '+o Bertone' by Giulia!charger@sucky.sucky.five.dollah.org
[19:44] <Tifosi> [13:45] @#alfaromeo (+stn) : [m/22 o/11 v/0 n/11 b/0 e/- I/-]
Can't see any attempt of linking there at all, i have removed passwords and I have specified hostmasks and ports ...... I've tried almost everything.

All 4 leafs are set to gs on the hub, and the hub is set to ghp on all leafs.

I'm running out of ideas here, anyone have any good ideas for me to try?

/mopar

edit, forgot something....
when i on the hub make a .link bertone or .link giulia it links

[20:34] <m0pey> .link bertone
[20:34] <Tifosi> [14:34] #m0par# link bertone
[20:34] <Tifosi> [14:34] Linking to Bertone at insecure.redhat.se:4100 ...

[20:34] <Tifosi> [14:34] Sending user file send request to Bertone
[20:34] <Tifosi> [14:34] Completed userfile transfer to Bertone.
[20:34] <m0pey> .bottree
[20:34] <Tifosi> [14:34] #m0par# bottree
[20:34] <Tifosi> Tifosi
[20:34] <Tifosi> |-+Botvid
[20:34] <Tifosi> |-+Attendant
[20:34] <Tifosi> |-+giulia
[20:34] <Tifosi> `-+Bertone
[20:34] <Tifosi> Average hops: 1.0, total bots: 5

but thats the eggy ordinary linking right? thats not linking through netbots.tcl?

Actually tha didn't help either, today the hub shells cable went down for 2 hour and when the three bots returned they didn't link and op the newcomers.... when i wrote .link leafbot1 in hubbots partyline they emediatly linked and downloaded userfile from the hub.

I'm getting really pissed at this now.

All this is located in every eggdrop help menu, under .help whois. All your linking issues deal with 1 command .botattr, and the flags involved are:
h hub (bot is auto-linked at highest priority)
a alternate (bot is auto-linked if no hub bots can be linked)

Slennox has a great explanation of linking eggdrops, located here.

thnx, afraid it is already linked like that, always has been.....
Just that the damn bots just wount link no more and i need to figure out why.

I think it has something with telnet between the shells to do... atleast thats my latest theory...
If they were alive... I'd kill them
