looks like 1.6.8 checks banlist and list of channel bans when someone changes nick, am i right?

Looking at uptates1.6 yes.
Eule more membercheck fixes for nick bans, nick +k users, -user, and +host
I hope it doesn't deter performance. Even as good as nick bans are for the quick, anti-auto-join scripts.
