Since your releasing a new version, make sure you fix the allbans error if you haven't already, and also consider adding a server lag checker, in case the shell or server get extremely lagged the bot won't erroneously place bans/lock the channel. Thanks
The allbans error exists in the current version of sentinel, but a very very very long time ago slennox mentioned it would be fixed in a version which would be released soon, guess that version never came out, but he did paste the code to fix the problem, and no I don't remember what it was, but my sentinel has it, it had to do with re-arranging a line or two I think, try asking him for more information on the bug/bug-fix.
The bug was fixed, but there has been no new release. Only one person ever reported the bug (yourself I gather), and that was around five months after the script had been public. That, combined with the fact that the person who reported it implied I was releasing script after script full of bugs, has made it a low priority.
I did find out why the script didn't place bans, it was because 'max-modes' was set incorrectly, and I didn't say it was full of errors did I ? I just recently started using sentinel again, one more suggestion would be to add the option for the bot to use "silence +*!*@*" supported by most ircds when msg or ctcp flooded, and have an unsilence option in minutes/seconds which can be specified in the config.. whichever. They're just suggestions which doesn't mean you have to even consider them, it'd just be nice that's all and make it even more efficient at what it does, which it does pretty well, until I take up tcl scripting
It's practically ready, but actual release is probably at least a few weeks away (I'm thinking of making it a 'third anniversary release'). Those who've been helping with testing and people who've made netbots.tcl donations will be receiving 'release candidate' versions before then.
i mailed at slennox@egghelp.org regarding some explanation (those new variables) for that testing version you sent, but i have'nt got a reply from you yet
I didn't receive a reply to my earlier request of the number of bots, bot versions, etc. the script would be tested on. So, no, I haven't responded to your own request.
In any case, if you want a full and complete explanation of new things then you should probably wait for the release version (testers should be able to figure certain things out for themselves, but if they're stuck on one specific thing or two I'll be happy to help).
