When i try to install the patch (patch -p1 eggdrop.1.6.17.ssl.diff) my system hang and cursor blinking

Secondly you need to apply the patch after you freshly extract the tarbell. To patch it make sure you have the patch in the base eggdrop 1.6.17 dir and then type the above command.
