Eggdrop/Unix hostname issue

Hello!

So, I've finally gotten the drop to work exactly the way I want it. Almost. See, it still get's a hostmask with a numeric IP, rather than the really witty domain I purchased expressly for this purpose. Same thing with BitchX, when IRCing from it.

Reverse lookup is enabled for this IP with the ISP, the domain has an a-record, everything works.. except for this. Where/how do I change/fix it?

BTW, the DNS setup may not be exactly standard. I've got the DNS-record for the domain at a free company called mydomain.com. Lovely service. Anyway, it's pointed to the IP, which is connected through a local SDSL ISP. The ISP, in turn have activated reverse lookup for this IP on their dns-servers. But it's not their dns-servers that actually host the A-record. (hope that's not too unclear. I know next to nothing about DNS).

Anyway, is there some setting or something I need to tweak? I've already played with the settings in the conf for vhosts, and that doesn't help much I'm afraid.

Since you've already said that the IP doesn't reverse-lookup even with BX, quite obviously this cannot be an eggdrop problem.

Why you're certainly right, this isn't/wasn't an eggdrop issue. But thanks to some of the lovely people on this forum (and some of the lovely people on IRC) it was resolved anyway. Kudos to all.

Anyway, what's with the arrogant tone?

i he just right. if its also not working with a BitchX its not the eggdrop that's the problem.

Well, that's certainly right. But I got the impression that he meant that this had nothing to do with eggdrop, thus should not be posted in this forum. Which is, strictly speaking, true, now that I think about it

Anyway, I might've misinterpreted or something. My bad.

Sorry if I sounded arrogant. What I meant was you should not look at eggdrop as having the problem. I didn't intend it to sound like "don't post that here".

As I said gpdza, the fault was on my side. Was having a bad day and was a bit overly grumpy..

No hard feelings I hope..?

How was this resolved? I am having a similar problem and would be interested in how you fixed yours.
