At the same begginigin of Windrop project it was a little bit harder to compile pure Eggdrop. Some changes in source code was required. Probably that's why they decided to make a sourceforge project.
Well i for one am greatfull to the windrop team. they have made my life a lot easier with testing scripts on my local machine without having to install linux to do it
The lifecycle of a noob is complex. Fledgling noobs gestate inside biometric pods. Once a budding noob has matured thru gestation they climb out of their pod, sit down at a PC, ask a bunch of questions that are clearly in the FAQ, The Noob is born

ah, now I see what you mean... took a look at their patches for older eggdrop versions; indeed, changes were required, albeit 95% in the configure script and not actual C source code
1.6.17 however doesn't require patches, everyone should be able to compile it under Cygwin w/o any tweaks - like it should be
I compile my own Windrops under Cygwin using the same configs I use for my eggdrops. The only problem I have encountered is the latest version of Cygwin seems to be 'bugged' as I had to replace a couple of the dll's with the previous version to have the Windrop connect to a network.
Prior to doing this I downloaded the official release of Windrop and ran it (to make sure it just wasn't me) and it was unable to connect.

The DNS module problems are caused by changes in minires 1.0, so switch back to minires/minires-devel 0.97-1 if you are compiling your own Eggdrop under Cygwin.
Unfortunately I didn't notice the issue when I first updated to minires 1.0. Windrop 1.6.17 & 1.6.18cvs binaries have been updated to resolve issue.
Windrop is just a shorter name for Eggdrop for Windows. I provide Windrop binaries in a nice package, since not everyone wants to have to use Cygwin to compile their own Eggdrop.
There used to be some Windrop ports on the eggheds FTP site in the past, but they were removed long ago. The Cygwin version of Eggdrop was not officially supported for a long time.
There are no plans for a native Eggdrop port, I don't think it would be worth it, since there aren't any major issues.
