Is there a way to set, either in config OR .tcl, the bot to kick someone who is not a user if they private message the bot?

Hi..

It's not settable in the config file, but you can write a TCL script for that easily. There are probably some writen already. Check the TCL scripts section.

I've looked through the .tcl files and I've seen .tcl's that will monitor all kinds of channel activities and make the bots kick/ban for all different reasons, but I did not see one that was for or included a private message to the bot. I do not know anything about writting .tcl or else I would do it myself. Can anyone help me?

DrTongue, no doubt there are such scripts out there. But based on your initial question, I've made an attempt to write such tcl. You may give it a try...

I'm not really sure why that would come in useful? Maybe if they pvted the bot with a message preceded with "." - but surely not for all messages?

Well there are a few reasons for this, but the main is that it seems more and more lately people are private messaging and NOT chatting in channel, and also I have had an increase in people trying to message bots and trying gain access and/or ops.

Why don't you just unbind the commands that would allow people to gain access? IDENT for example?

Well, to be completely honest we in the channel are tired of PM that seems to be increasing. We have a LOT of people (mainly from Europe and that part of teh world) that come in, which in itself is no problem everyone from anywhere is welcome, but it seems all the want to do is PM. My question is why would you come into a channel and private message EVERYONE instead of just chatting in channel. We invite everyone to come vist/chat/idle....but most of us just prefer NOT to be PM'd by someone we don't know. We even have a channel greet message asking everyone to please feel free to visit ANYTIME, but no private messages please. But they turn right around and do just that, and yes most understand english, they just choose to ignore the greet message. Many have told me just that themselves. Hence the request for a kick/ban .tcl for the bots. I do not think that no PMing is an unreasonable request, do you?

Well that obviously changes things, showing an obvious disregard for the request. IF thats the case I see your point
