Forum compatability with Mozilla Firefox

Post by Sir_Fz »

I have Mozilla Firefox 1.5 browser; I login to the forum and select save password, after I close the browser and later visit the forum again, I have to login again and sometimes when I login again it doesn't login. Is this an issue with the forum compatability with this browser or an issue with the browser itself or some other reason?

I've been using Firefox for some time (pre 1.5); you do not logout! Simply exit the site. :)

Yeah, that's what I said
... I close the browser ...
I didn't say logout :P . Seems like a problem from my side, I'll visit the forum with IE then

I haven't noticed similar with neither Mozilla 1.7.12 nor Seamonkey 1.5a nor any older Versions of them since ~ Mozilla 1.6 and Seamonkey 1.0a (which use the same engine behind as firefox, just the frontend is diffrent).
Maybe you are better up to check if your browser restricts the cookies to be session only.

I did notice one thing though, use Firefox and then come back later with IE and return later with Firefox and you have to login again. I think it's a cookie thing.

Another trick you can try Sir_Fz is to load the IE Tab plugin for Firefox and add the forum url to it. :D

Yeah I do open IE and later go back to Firefox, I bet that's the problem.

What do you mean by IE Tab plugin? because there're no plugins at the Firefox home page and I couldn't find anything like that in the Firefox browser itself.

I'm sometimes using Firefox 1.5 of the forum and I don't have the login problem as you guys have. AFIK the forum will store a cookie if you check that "Log me on automatically each visit:" on the login page and when you get back it won't ask you to login again. Check what happens with the cookie in question.

I haven't encountered the problem with Firefox 1.5 myself, but I'm still using RC2. If it's not the cookie settings, see if clearing cookies helps.

Thats then probably more an IE issue than a Firefox issue. I have cookies on Windows Mozilla and Linux Mozilla/Seamonkey, but don't knock out each other.

Yup. I still have IE as my default browser and if I get notified of a PM and click the link in the e-mail IE undoes the auto login bit and I have to fix up again in Mozilla.

My cookie settings are fine, the problem occurs only when I use IE and get back to Firefox again and the url I use to visit the forum is http://forum.egghelp.org.

Edit: I might add that I'm also signed in on an Invision Power Board and never had this problem there, but did face the same problem on other phpBB boards.
