G-Lined

Post by Sheldon »

My bot got G-lined today?

[13:24] * Quits: Hotbird (G-lined)

i have no idea why, ive been throught the rules with a fine tooth comb, and nothing stands out?

i tried asking the quakenet staff, and they refuse to look into it.... and where actually unhelpful... got the impression they didnt care!!!

i want to know, so it doesnt keep happening.... or even worse lead to a K-line!!

i was in chat at the time, and nothing came up in my status window??

does anyone know a eggbot command that will reveal the answer... if there is one?

of course they wouldn't care - the bigger the network, the lesser probability of admins caring for individual users, who are considered insignificant
connection, sharing, dcc problems? click <here>
before asking for scripting help, read <this>
use

Code: Select all

 tag when posting logs, code

start the bot using the -nt switches to see exactly what reason (if any) is given for the g:line.

Code: Select all

./eggdrop -nt bot.conf
btw, a G:line is a "global K:line"
K:lines are only for individual servers, G:lines are for the entire network
(you'd be better off with only a K:line)

oh right, i thought a k-line was a permanent ban...

well anyway, i restarted the bot with the -nt command

and nothing shows up... :(

looks like ill never know? is there a way of logging these things... just in case it happens again (hopefully not)

if it had been me G-lined, at least i would have read about it in the status window after. and know what i shouldnt be doing again.

the only thing that isnt in the rules that i am wondering if it was..
is the fact that me and my bot share the same Auth user and password with Q.... could that be an offence?

The bots log should show the same messages your IRC client would get (in server window) if you were K-Line.

For further information contact an IRCOp (usually in the Network help channel).
Add [SOLVED] to the thread title if your issue has been.

As you could have figured from just read the topic in the Qnet #help channel you would know they don't give out information about G-lines.

You will need to catch the raw of the G-line to find out what the reason is because eggdrop doesn't show it, never has.

Code: Select all

bind raw - 465 bot:glined
proc bot:glined {from keyword text} {
regexp -all -nocase {\S[\s]\:(.+)} $text tmp reason
  putlog "G-lined: $reason"
}
I didn't make it, but it will work. And don't forget, your bot will have been g-lined for a reason, they don't g-line for random things.

Well, on shell the reason for g-line is usually stupid shell admins, because if they wouldn't be stupid, there would be no wildcard g-line :D.

i have installed the script..

thats the reason i need to know... because as we speak my bot is back on channel, with nothing changed??

so in theory, it will be G-lined again for the same thing.... whatever it is?

until i know what it is, i cant change anything...

and as for the IRCops not telling you the reason in #help is the most ridiculous cop out for having to do any work ive ever heard!!!

Update...

i have had my whole channel G-lined now.....

they kicked out over 100 users and closed the channel???
demon1.uk.quakenet.org: Badchanneled (Shareing sat codes on Quakenet aint allowed)

well now i know why.... i dont think this is related to the Bot being G-lined yesterday, as the bot doesnt share files???
so this must be an individual user.

I asked in #help where I may find opers or atleast someone who would know about set glines...

this is the response... i appolagise for the language, sorry guys
this is to illustrate the idiots running Quakenet!!

[00:44] <me>where I may find opers or atleast someone who would know about set glines...
[00:45] <Deckard> try putting your head down the toilet
[00:45] <me> Deckard, I'm sure they are turds yes - but I doubt they'd be in *my* toilet.
[00:52] <Deckard> a reasonable answer to a dickheaded question
[00:52] <me> and stating that no-one knows anything about opers/glines/ircds
[00:52] <me> kind of stupid isn't it?
[00:52] <Deckard> don't start backtracking, you were being a cock
[00:52] <Deckard> and you got answered accordingly
[00:52] <me> Well, if I was given an answer for a channel being "glined" in the first place - I would'nt be so irritated :S -- I'm sorry for the attitude, but I'd expect a justified reason on a public network for a channel being forbidden, or at least network Staff to know who set it.
[00:55] <Deckard> generally we don't gline something for such a reason unless it's actually taking place
[00:56] <me> Well, I have been in #channel since it opened, and have never seen an oper join - so how can they justify the ban even if there was illegal activities? shouldnt the owner at least be spoken to first?

at this point i left, before i said something i regretted later!!

as soon as the G-line is lifted, im moving my bot and all its users to another network!!

well i have moved to another network now, and yes DragnLord, i have announced the change on the website and in the forum thx.

the change is only noticable to the Mirc, Trillian users as alot use the Javaweb client... i just changed the scripting to the new server.

it must be causeing problems because the channel is usually alot busier than it is at the moment... i reopened the channel 2 hours ago and there is only 54 people in?

they are already bombarding me with question about Nickserve and Chanserve already lol.... ive no idea, cos ive always used Quakenet??

Looks like we are all going to have to learn together.

as for the bot.....
i edited the .conf file and changed the servers
the bot joined and i OP'ed it and it attacked me?? tried banning me??
my auto protection script kicked in and kick/banned the bot

that was on one channel, on the other when i OP'ed it, it Deoped itself!!

looks like its goin to a fun few days.
