Actually, I just checked my system and do not have any libdns, so apparently you've loaded a module or script that requires it?

Maybe it (eggdrop) just needs reinstall.

Nothing whatever to do with eggdrop.

Red Hat RPM: bind-utils (Utilities for querying DNS name servers).

Updated few days ago FC5 system and eggdrop started complaining something about libdns (dont remember what exactly..), then I reinstalled eggdrop (./configure && make and copied binaries over old ones..) and it worked again..

I gather you'd done some updates and something broke?

I use Gentoo and am not familiar with how Fedora Core works but some updating does break stuff. :)

I just checked the src and apparently if you do have libdns, it will use it, but it's certainly not required.

config.log:

configure:3883: checking for gethostbyname in -ldns
configure:3913: gcc -pipe -o conftest -g -O2 -Wall conftest.c -ldns -lnsl >&5
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.3/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -ldns
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure:3919: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:
| /* confdefs.h. */

Compiles just fine without it.
