Hi All,
I've been running Macroshell for a little over a year now, and I'm curious as to what people think of the service, support, etc... I haven't received any nasty e-mails, so I'm assuming all is well, but I'm guessing there are a few people out there flipping me the bird who would love the opportunity to rant on and on about a bad experience they've had If you've never heard of Macroshell, I'd love to know where you look for shells (as I must be advertising in all the wrong places .

Generally, the less well known a shell is, the better service it provides. If you become well know, you invariably attract s'kiddies to yourself. This then manifests itself in mass k/d/glines on all the major networks. If you do go down the route of mass shell provision, I seriously suggest you become friends with a lot of admins on all the major networks, and be very tough on abuse.

Prior to opening Macroshell I did learn from the mistakes of others ).

I think one reason why it's difficult for shell providers to make it past their first year, is due to k-lines/g-lines/d-lines, abusive users, and packeting. To ensure you don't get blocked off of servers, you need to crack down on abusive users from the very start, and in doing so, you cut off the few people helping pay your monthly bill. To stop the packeting, you need to cut off the advertising accounts, and in doing so, you cut off the addition of countless users to your shellbox. If you don't stop the packeting, you end up pulling out a 2 month downtime notice while you relocate to a new colo facility, or have a new line provisioned from a different ISP, which is one of the worst things that can happen.
