Bot Forgetting

Post by dellthinker »

Ok, i added a bot on my bot net as hub, and i noticed they couldnt connect, so i go to the bot i had to re-add the hub to and the hub was missing. when i did a .whois bot it wasnt there. So i just simply re-added the hub to the bot and did a .save. Then i .whois the bot agian, and it wasnt there! So now im furious, i check the eggdrop dir where the .user file is located, and sure enough the bot is in fact there, for some reason the bot doesnt see it. What could be the problem?!

I vaguely recall seeing a similar problem reported and the cause was using some non-official version of eggdrop. If you're not using a copy of the src from the egghelp site directly that you compiled yourself, try getting the real src from egghelp.org, compile, then see if you still have the same problem.

Might help to not use file sharing between bots until your botnet is setup properly.

If the file sharing aspect is incorrectly configured files will get overwritten and entries could quite readily disappear.

Thanx for your replies, the reason i installed the eggdrops from my distro package is because the regular source wouldnt let me compile. I kept getting stupid errors that i didnt have lib8.so or something, when i CLEARLY do have it. So after googling and searching this forum and so on and so forth, i just decided to use my distros package.

Compile errors are fixable, and most likely the problem was missing header files because you didn't have devel packages. Personally, I think packages create more problems, and they certainly don't present any opportunities to learn how to fix things the old fashioned way (eg, rtfm)

I agree with rosc2112. Working through these compile time "errors" is a good learning curve. You end up knowing (forever) what eggdrop requires to run.

I had an interesting day with Ubuntu (6.10) and the latest XChat release.

Next time I'll just compile eggdrop (and get that right) then I'll know *any* XChat will compile. :D
