Skins and colors

Post by ppslim »

Having looked over the forum, I have to to find, that I have to allmost get 4 inches fromt he screen, to read some of the text.

Allthough green looks good, a lot of the colors are very bright.

I would like to see a Darker color, without as much of the niceties, EG a low bandwidth skin.

Would you believe that it was even brighter by default? Unfortunately, with the database spitting out errors during the upgrade and the like, I only had a limited amount of time to play with a theme for the forum before it was time for bed.

I still have some other move-related issues with the site to work through. Hopefully later today I'll get time to tweak the current theme and look for a couple of other decent ones for people who don't like the default. If there are any phpBB 2 themes you particularly like (or don't hate too much), let me know.

Looks great! I can read this one fine, and compared to some other php forums I frequent, this theme looks pretty good.

By the way, some forums allow theme changes by the users. I think this was with the older phpbb's, but I'd imagine it is still supported. Then those of us who's eyes arent too sharp or would just like a diffrent scheme could change it themselves.. ;) Also, I just noticed the post doesn't show if it has been edited by the poster. *shrug*

Three other styles to choose from now. You can select one in your profile page next to "Board Style". Pick whichever works for you :D

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a "low bandwidth" theme. I chose ones which were available for v2.0.1 (many haven't been updated) and that the developers seemed to be active with.

I first saw the new forum at home and on my screen ... I can handle the color of it just fine. However, now that I am at Jen's house my eyes are popping out of my head and hiding. Looking at the forum is hurting my eyes :P~

By noting the time of your post, I can probably tell you, that you where too late to see the original colors.

Believe me, they did hurt, and depending on the brightness of your monitor, you will have found that some of the greens, where so subtle, they allmost blended within the grey-ish blue background.

Well, all I did was darken the visited link colour, which was a bit hard to see, but not so much that I would be doing this -> :o

But it's always nice when little adjustments make a big difference. One thing I couldn't do much about, however, was the orange font that's a bit hard to see sometimes. Because it shows up on bright and dark backgrounds simultaneously, it's impossible to get right. Luckily, the orange font doesn't display any important info.

The little dark folders (new posts since last visit) doesn't work for me with the new layout. :( I think it looks GREAT though, other than that. A real pain going back to EVERY section to see if a new post has been made. Us who are not experts like most of you, use this forum to try and learn everything we can about eggdrops.

DrTongue, what browser are you using? I haven't had this problem with IE or Opera. That is, except for the new post icons sometimes getting cleared during my visit, which was also a problem with phpBB 1.xx.
