Yep thats the first thing i tried before posting here, didnt a bit i tried localhost and i also tried the wan ip (note: its not behind a router) and running RH3

Check the hostname of the box with the hostname command, and make sure that is a correct host for it. (IE it should resolve to the box's outside ip.) This may not always be the case, but if you set the my-ip and my-hostname options in the config and it still isnt running..

I think it may have something to do with RH3 because i just tried it on a friends shell which was running rh3 and it generated same error message.

ok i fixed that error by configureing the eggdrop.complete.conf and it started right up with no problems. weird.
