Best Trivia / Hangman scripts to meet my needs?

Post by Batchman »

There seem to be several trivia and hangman scripts out there, but I have something kind of specific that I am looking for, and there isn't usually very much detail available about how the games work.

So I figured I would risk posting what I am interested in, and see if anyone could mention which script(s) come closest to what I am looking for.

First, I am looking to come as close to the Trivia and Hangman games which used to be used on the various GEnie on-line forums. Those games seemed to be very well put-together, and a lot of fun.

TRIVIA

For trivia, I am looking for a game in which the questions can be easily customized. It needs to be a multi-player game with several people playing at the same time. The channel op would start the game, people would probably have to join. Then the bot would ask the first question, and would wait a specified amount of time, giving the users a chance to privately send the answer to the bot.

After the specified amount of time, the bot would end that round, and list scores, giving points to the people who got the question right. Nice bonus features would be a way for the op to go over wrong answers to give credit for a mis-spelled, but correct answer; or for the op to be able to award a bonus point for particularly funny answers (though not correct.)

In a perfect world, a game could either be from a short list of questions, wherein the bot would ask all questions, -or- from a huge list of questions, where the bot would randomly pick X questions from the entire list. (This would allow the op to be a player, as well, since he/she didn't just finish writing all the questions.)

After the final question was finished, final scores would be shown, so you could see who won the game.

HANGMAN

The Hangman game would hopefully work either from a file with X number of words for the game, or randomly select X number of words from a master list of words.

The game would be started by the op, and again, people would probably need to specifically join it. People would be allowed to guess letters one at a time, which would be added to the puzzle, and they would be awarded points for the letters they managed to add.

Anybody who figures out the puzzle would privately send it to the bot. If they were correct, they would be given the number of points equal to the number of blank spaces still remaining in the puzzle at the time they guessed it.

The turns for letter guessing would be timed, so if somebody did not guess a letter within 15 or 30 seconds, they would lose their turn, and it would move to the next person.

BOTH GAMES

It would be nice if the bot could manage to 'watch' open speech in the chat room, and penalize players who type the answers in the regular chat, spoiling it for everybody else.

If anybody knows of a script that matches what I am looking for pretty well, please let me know which ones.

If these don't match any script currently out there, but they sound really good to somebody who would like to create them, I would be glad to provide even more detailed information. I used to run these games on one of the GEnie RoundTables, so I can remember the details of how they worked pretty well.

If I just tick you off, I'm sorry ... I'm not trying to annoy people, I am just trying to recreate a very fun community gaming experience for my forum community.
