If you are behind a router, you may be stuck.

If you have access to the router, you can setup port forwarding for that port.

If you do not have access, you could ask the admin.

If he will not do it, you can't do it.

First, I would read through all the router logs carfully. The DMZ server (De-militorised server) is where all traffic is sent to, unless another forwarding rule is in force against it.

This is a major security hazard.

Farwarding a range of select ports would be a betterr idea.

And now for something completely different...

I have a slightly different question concerning the telnet feature of Eggdrop. I didn't think it would have been wise to create another topic similar to this, so I just posted a reply here instead.

So, I got a shell account on a server, but they don't allow any such processes to be run that open a port for inbound traffic. And now I should convince them that Eggdrop's "listen" - feature can be disabled :) So I was just wondering if Eggdrop still binds itself to some default port after I remove the line(s) "listen port all/bots/users/off".

(BTW, I didn't quite get the point of the "off" option - if you have to specify a valid port for the command "listen" anyway, why should you be able to turn some port "off" in the config file? Why can't you just remove the line that makes the bot bind to that port? Or can the ports be altered on-the-fly, with the help of some script perhaps?)

Ports can be altered on the fly.

Once you have issued a listen command, you can use the off portion of the command, to unbind it.

You should be able to just remove the listen command line.

If using the uptime module, it will bind to a UDP port, yet it does not answer requests.

if you cant open a DCC chat to the bot due to firewall and telnet is bloked too... maybe try "/ctcp botname chat" if it's on IRC allready...
