mIRC is a client, not IRC itself.

This is just to show something most people dont know.

I use mIRC, you use BitchX, he uses X-Chat, and we all chat on IRC (internet relay chat)
mIRC, BitchX, X-chat among many others are just 'clients' or 'tools' or 'software' we use to connect to our favourite IRC networks like DALnet, Undernet or EFnet.

We cant refer tp DALnet as mIRC or BitchX.. can we?.. No, because you KNOW its an IRC network. Same way, these 'clients' are just our mediums to connect to IRC.

So when we are referring to chat, its actually supposed to be referred to as IRC, not giving it the name of the client you use like mIRC.

Many people say "today on mirc i saw this wuz happening" which isnt right.

Get what i mean?

Only newbies questions, they can't understand that IRC is a protocol, servers and client names are just some ways to use this protocol.

Many people would say, that once a name is bestowed upon you, it will forever be with you. IE, MS software, was crap, is crap and allways will be crap, no matter whet happens (Damn, I love that example).

Remember once, we where all new to IRC, eggdrop, BNC, the internet, and anything else we started.

When we where new to IRC (as most of these mIRC, I mean IRC user are), we would have been considered lame.

Thus, they are lame, you are lame, I am lame, get the picture.

Remember this when you post your comments, as you may be posting more home truths, that truth about the post.

Fear me, for I am lame. Hmm, time to start saying that to the DDOS's.

Note that most people doesnt care about what protocol they are using. They only care about the actual chatting. See it like this: how many knows about that standard internet protocol is ipv4? Not many.. they only care about the surfing itself. Same **** but diffrent, right?

I do agree on that *nix users who says 'mIRC' when they mean 'IRC' is pretty hopeless...

The term "Surfing the Web" is different to the phrase "Chatting on mIRC".

OK, I'm aint surfing anything, neither is it a web.

The phrase was coined from the fact, you could move around the mase, that is called the internet, freely, and without restirction (to a point).

It's all the same, when it comes to putting www in front on an address. The fact that it's there, serves no purpose what so ever. Allthough, it does make for a standard, even if a company doesn't attach the server to the plain domain name (eg egghelp.org, rather then http://www.egghelp.org).

"Chatting on a mIRC server" is, however, different.

And for proof. Do you hear people talking about "Surfing the Internet Explorer", or "Surfing the Opera" (get the point).

Look at Yahoo!, Geocities and many of the oither chat sites, that do not use a RFC complient IRC server. People still called these IRC chat rooms (another thing, that should only be "IRC rooms").

"Chatting on IRC" and "Surfing the Web" are phrases, rather than names. "Internet Explorer" and "mIRC" are software names, of which, there are several different peice of such, that can be used to connect and do, "Surfing the Web", or to "Chat on IRC".

It's all in the context.
