How does flood protection work?

Post by jenwolf »

I have a user (not registered with the bot, just a regular of the channel) that frequently changes her nick several times in a row. I'm wondering how to get the bot to kick and ban her for a couple hours when she does that? As it is, the flood-nick setting seems to do nothing, and I can't find much documentation on it or the other flood settings. Any help would be appreciated.

I was in a scriptwriting mood so I created a script for this purpose:

All I ask is that you test it for me and let me know if it works well :)

It works up to the point that it should ban...then there's an error:

[07:37] Tcl error [snc_nick]: can't read "host": no such variable

I noticed that the regular nick flood protection is working now, though. Maybe it was lagged before or something? *shrug*

The "host" error is strange, there is no "host" variable used in SNC.tcl. However, I did notice that Moretools.tcl has a host variable in the masktype proc I call. Did the bot have Moretools.tcl loaded, and if so, what version?

Why is it that 99% of the computer geek community has to be jerks like you?

slennox: yes it was running mc.moretools2.0.1.tcl

I appreciate your help, but I don't think I'll be back posting anymore. I was already uncomfortable about it, and this guy just confirmed my fears.

Never mind him. He's just pissed that I haven't taken up any of his script ideas :P

The latest version of Moretools.tcl on my site is 1.2 (MC_8 likes the bseen archive better, so he can't be bothered sending me any script updates :P), but the latest version from bseen seems to be 2.2. In any case, I suspect the version of Moretools you're using is causing the problem.
