tcllib/SMTP authentication failure

Hey all, quick question for you guys. I've grabbed tcllib, and am trying to use it to send an e-mail out. The mail server that I use requires authentication. When I specify a username and password using the smtp::sendmessage I get the following error: 501: malformed auth input (#5.5.4). Has anybody seen this before, and if so, is there a resolution?
