Eggdrop in ~50 channels?

Post by Fussi »

Is it possible to let eggdrop join 50+ channels without getting huge lags / server loads?

I need him to watch over key-protected channels since chanserv wont join teh channels anymore...

eggdrop doesn't have channel number limitation

however, all IRC servers do - meaning that you and your bot are allowed on a maximum N channels at a time (where N is usually 10-15)

If you own the IRCD you can alter the channel limit. If you aren't the owner tho you could use more than one eggdrop with the same setup linked to each other.

some (most?) networks support the mode +d (deaf) which would take almost all load from the bot, since it doesnt even recieve channel texts. only modes, joins, kicks, etc. ^-^. this way almost any shell should be able to maintain 50 chans. the bot could still be used for autoopping, dynamic bans and so on.

PS: chanserv is not supposed to join any channels :D.

In some networks it does?

I've seen chanserv sit in lots of channels on other networks although i don't like any of them. Quakenet with Q/L and Q9 are so much better imo :)

Chanserv wont join teh channels anymore, the ircservices team removed this function.

^DooM^, you said "you could use more than one eggdrop with the same setup linked to each other."
Do you have any tutorials how to do that? I'm happy at all that i've managed to install the bot and run it without getting loads of errors ^^
I'll search the forum for that now, but its always good to have a tut :)

Also if you have an o:line generally for services or server administrators, no matter what channel limit you've set on your ircd, it will be only for the users. If the bot oper's up and gets status it can pass the channel limit constraint.
