Bot not responding to initial PuTTY command

Post by vikkiroxx »

I have configured my bot and used the ./eggdrop -m <config file> command to connect to an IRC channel. PuTTY then gives me the command to tell the bot /msg <botname>hello. When I go into the IRC chatroom, the bot is there, but does not respond to the PuTTY command /msg <botname> hello. What is wrong?

You seem to be slightly confused.

PuTTy is a telnet client and as such you dont use PuTTy to go onto IRC with. If you setup your eggdrop correctly and are running with the -m switch your bot should join the server you set in the config file. you then /msg yourbotsname hello (or whatever you set the hello message too) with your IRC client such as mIRC. PuTTy is used to Telnet into your eggdrop it has nothing to do with IRC in any way shape or form.
