Semms the .conf file needs to be named "eggdrop" otherwise it wont compile
very well cant have 2 eggdrop.conf files in one directory. How to get around this lil obsticle was well beyond me.
since I have the disk space I simply made a duplicate copy of my entire bot directory, made the changes in the new bots .conf
start each bot then telnet in with their port numbers
now if your planning on linking them .....

however, there is a command line option to let it start with a conf file named other than eggdrop.conf.
no option, just as argument like:
./eggdrop myspecial.config
This is windrop so it would just be eggdrop.exe myspecial.config.
