The uptime contest isn't very good at keeping track of bots. I have about 120 in the contest and the last time they reached the top there were less than a fifth of that number still considered trustworthy.

Character limit on bot<>bot communication?

I've increasingly been using the botnet for transferring of information between bots, allowing workloads to be shared or delegated. However, I've run into a problem sending long lines, such as a 500 character privmsg. It seems to get truncated somewhere around 300 characters before the remote bot ca...

Ok, could I just get a little clarification on this please... There's 512mb memory, plus 1gb swap. If I start up more bots than can be handled by memory, they'll start use swap? How is Eggdrop affected by having to use swap memory; would it be a significant detriment to the bots performance and abil...

I've found the reasons for the unusual memory usage. First one is bseen.tcl was using up 2mb. I won't be using that on 'most all the bots, so nothing to worry about there. The other one seems to be a couple of memory leaks in my script. I don't think I can see what's causing that, so I might put it ...

I'd hoped people here knew me better, but apparently I was wrong. The bots are running on a dedicated server that I pay for. I merely used the term 'shell' as that's what we've always thought of it. There's plenty of bandwidth available for them, and I've only experienced problems from one user who ...

Choosing Eggdrop version

It's been a while since I've posted on the forum, but I'm still around. I need a little advice on contrasting Eggdrop versions; hopefully some of you will be more knowledgable on the subject than I am. Presently all my bots are 1.6.8, and I can get roughly 120 of them running considering the shell's...

Another alternative is to utilize Lynx to filter out the html and format the page. Not recommended for high-use web scripts though.

Server connection problems

I've been having problems with bots failing to connect for a couple of years now. It seems to affect different bots randomly and the problem always disappears on its own, usually after a day or two. I'm still not sure what the cause is. The log simply shows: [18:11] Connected to sandra.irctgnet.com ...

If you're using any kind of scripts to identify to Channel Services, note that in most cases, they will consider eggdrop's standard output to be a flood, which might explain the ignore you mentioned. When sending text to Channel Services bots, send one command per 6 seconds, this will ensure that th...

Username problem

I've not had a chance to test this on the newest version, maybe it's fixed there, but I'm having problems working with users who have a username of -

The bot turns *!-@tmnet.my into *!@tmnet.my

Is there something I should do to correct this?
